Frequent Questions

Q.

My older iPod charges fine in this unit. However the new iPod I just purchased will not. Why is this?

A.

The reason for this is that the original iPod specification for charging called for 12 volts.
As 12 volts is readily available in most electronic circuits, the majority of manufacturers designed iPod docking products around the 12V option.
(this model being one)

From 2004 to 2007, iPod products added a 5V option (probably for USB charging from a computer) while maintaining the 12V option.
Around 2007 this specification was changed again, with the 12V option being removed.
Hence, all electronic docking products using the 12V option now have this dilemma with newer iPod products.

Unfortunately, the unit cannot be modified to accommodate the 5V only charging requirement.
All current TEAC docking products will charge any newer (5V) iPod products.

Thank you for your interest in TEAC products.
